I've had acid reflux all my 62 years. I've had heartburn problems since I was 14. I just thought it was normal. 18 months ago I had these odd pains in different areas of my gut . Doctors were no help, except to put me on a daily regimen of Prilosec. One night I saw a commercial for Activia, from Dannon. I figured I had nothing to lose so I bought some and started having it every night as a dessert. The odd transient pains disappeared in a couple of days but I continued to eat it as it made a good low volume dessert. A couple of months later, I realized I'd had no heartburn nor woke up with a mouth and throat full of burning acid. It's now been 18 months and I haven't touched a Prilosec since and no hint of either condition. And I eat anything I want. I'd like to find someone that makes navy beans and ham like my grandmother used to make. That would be a sure-fire test.
